History
Nayoro City University is a public university located in the northernmost part of Japan. Nayoro City Junior College, founded in 1960, was restructured,in 2006, and a Faculty of Health and Welfare offering degree programmes in Nutritional Sciences, Nursing, and Social Welfare was established.
As a regional centre of culture and information, our university has enriched the lives of people in the Northern Hokkaido area for more than 50 years. Rarely seen in larger, urban-centred universities, an informal and intimate learning style based on relationships of mutual trust is well rooted in our university. These days, students from all over Japan come together to study at our university.
1960 Nayoro Women's Junior College is established
1961 Authorized as a dietician training facility
1981 Programmes in Nutrition and Home Economics are introduced
1982 Establishment of the Northern Hokkaido Research Institute
1984 The Early Childhood Education programme is introduced
1990 The name is changed to Nayoro City Junior College, which becomes coeducational
1994 The Department of Nursing is established, and authorized for the training of pediatric nurses
1995 A student residence is built
2006 Nayoro City University is established and the Early Childhood Education programme of Nayoro City Junior College,
Life Sciences Department becomes the Department of Early Childhood Care and Education
2008 Nayoro City Junior College becomes the Junior College Department of Nayoro City University
